Love this compilation! I've been meaning to get more into classical music lately and this was perfect. If you get around to the Russian piano works compilation, I'd love to hear your thoughts on Scriabin (my favorite composer)!

OHHHH SCRIABIN! What a FANTASTIC composer and I have so much love for his piano works. Also the fact that Tolstoy was a fan just tickles my brain. I can’t stop thinking about a Russian piano works list and I might have to get to it soon! There’s so much to love about Russian music at that time and how it bridges the late romantic to contemporary eras.

Thanks so much for reading, Sophia! 🤎

Such a well-crafted list that I know was built with thoughtfulness and A LOT of experience! I love the resurgence of classical music and am so glad y'all took the time to compile this list. A lot of these picks are nostalgic and very close to my heart (especially Kinderszenen, which is so on theme).

If one was somehow still looking for more after this extensive guide, I totally think these pieces deserve an honorable mention:

- "Liebestraum" No. 3 by Franz Liszt

- "2 Arabesques" by Claude Debussy

- "Intermezzo" by Johannes Brahms

- "Liebesleid" by Fritz Kreisler (Rachmaninoff's version!)

Thanks so much for reading, Danny! 🤎 I appreciate it so much. And those additions—YES! Could not agree more. I added Brahms’ op.118 intermezzo through the entire collection of six pieces from op.118, but that INTERMEZZO! Genuinely it deserves its own spotlight. It makes my heart swell. (Unless you’re referring to the op.117 intermezzo which I definitely do agree with as well!)

Liebestraum. Oooof. Since you mentioned it, I need to listen to it right now.

Kinderszenen is one of those pieces that just gets better with age. The older you get, the more you understand it and listen with more patience and care.

thanks again for reading, Danny! How amazing is it that music can communicate what words alone can’t convey.

This post brings me so much JOY! I start my mornings with classical music and it’s what I naturally gravitate towards when writing & reading (so basically most things I do).

Thanks so much for sharing, Séamus. I hope you have the opportunity to start! It’s never too late but the piano is tough, since access is tricky. But I’m glad you never lost the love for it. I’ve never known my life without the piano (I started at 3 and pretty much had it as a career since I was 7). At times I feel resentful that so much of my childhood/early adulthood was spent locked in a practice room for 8 hours a day, but I’m seeing it now as a huge privilege. Thanks so much for reading, Séamus, and I hope music continues to add immense inspiration, whether you’re playing or listening!

I hope one day that you can get back into the piano! It took me YEARS to master my scales because I was a stubborn student.
